I can honestly say that sharing my isolation plans was not what I expected to write as my first post of 2020. I also didn’t anticipate writing my first post of the year IN APRIL. That’s my bad.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and, as a non-essential worker, my office is closed for the foreseeable future. Luckily, working in marketing means that I’m able to continue to work from the comfort of my own home which I am incredibly grateful for as I know this is not the case for everyone.
I usually have lots going on at work and then spend the rest of my week meeting up with friends and seeing family. Always seeming to be busy means I struggle to find the time to get things done that have been on my to-do list for a while. If you didn’t already know, this girl loves a list!
Working from home has meant that I’ve been spending the majority of my week on usual day-to-day work projects helping to keep me in a good routine. With the remainder of the week, there are things I have planned and have since started to do with me being at home more. Although there is a lot of uncertainty at the moment, one thing I am certain of is that I want to make the most of this time.
I thought I would share this with you in case you are looking for ways to spend your time too. If you don’t have the urge to be productive during this time then that’s totally ok. The anxiety a pandemic brings is a lot to deal with as it is and I definitely found this to be the case a month or so ago. The best thing we can all do during this time is to follow government advice and stay home where possible.
So while I am at home, these are some of the things that I have started or plan to do.
First on the list and an obvious one, hence why you are reading this post, is that I have always wanted to blog more and it has always seemed to be something I couldn’t find the time for. Excuses, excuses, I know. It was even on my Goals for 2019 post yet just never happened. I’m determined to start jotting down some ideas here and there and turning them into blog posts when there’s something I want to write about. I have such a love for this blog and feel like it has been neglected for far too long, but not anymore! (Note to self: really going to have to stick to this now I’ve dropped myself in it).
Work On My Design Portfolio
Something you may not know about me is that I have an interest in design and love working on different creative projects. In the past I have worked on designing promotional materials for events, property development brochures, social media graphics, display banners… the list goes on. Something I plan to do whilst having more time is working on growing my design portfolio. I want to document everything I’ve worked on so far as well as starting to play around with new projects to build upon my skills and also explore more creative ideas.
I have already started working on my own little project since being in isolation and am enjoying having the freedom of doing what I want with that. More to come on that soon!
Start a New Series
I’m not usually one to binge-watch series and I don’t normally watch that much TV – until now. That is usually owing to having a busy and sociable lifestyle, which obviously can’t be the case right now. Sex Education on Netflix was a love of mine last year so I have already watched Season 2 of this since being home and thought it was even better than the first! My boyfriend and I have also started Luther and are now onto Series 2. Recommendations for what to watch next are more than welcome.
Organise & Declutter
One thing I always wish I had more time to do! Organising and decluttering seems to be never-ending. There is always a list (told you!) of things I could re-organise or sort through and clear out.
Number 1 on that list is my wardrobe. Firstly, everything that should be in my wardrobe doesn’t even fit in there. I have clothes hanging up in my family members’ wardrobes, stored in bags under my bed and I’m pretty sure I even have some in boxes in the loft. Second to that, I’m awful at clearing out clothes as I always decide that there’ll be a time or event when I can wear something when the reality is that I will probably never wear it again. I don’t even know where to start with it but I know it needs to be done. It’s definitely on the agenda whilst I’m home so it can get sorted and anything I don’t need (which will be A LOT) can go to charity.
The same goes for the rest of the house, everything just needs to be sorted through, organised and cleared out, if need be!
Get Back On Plan With SW
I joined Slimming World last year after hearing all about it from my sister and sister-in-law who were seeing great results from the plan. I lost a stone in the first four weeks, then summer happened (lots of BBQs, lots of cocktails, lots of anything that wasn’t super healthy), followed by my birthday and then Christmas. It meant lots of gains here and there and small losses the rest of the time.
I got back on plan and went back to the gym at the start of this year and lost about 12lbs between then and when we went into isolation. Again, that made it really difficult to stay on plan and make the right choices. Not wanting to lose what I’ve already achieved, I’m now making weekly meal plans and am more motivated to work harder towards achieving my target.
To keep me motivated I am also sharing this journey and what I’ve been eating over on my SW Instagram @thehealthtrial.
I used to love getting engrossed in a book. I still do! Until recently, how often I had been reading was seldom. But since isolation, I finally finished a book I started in October – Living My Best Life by Claire Frost. I have also since read Get Your Sh!t Together by Sarah Knight which was incredible. Through the book, Sarah gives great advice on how to stay organised and focused and how to basically get your shit together – something I owe this new wave of organisation and motivation to. I may even write a separate blog post on this book and the key things I took away from it because I found it super helpful.
Now I am reading again and really enjoying it, I plan to work my way through the stack of unread books I have and even find some more good reads.
Make Future Plans
Making plans for once this is all over (which could be some time) is helping me to remain positive and giving me things to look forward to. I have started a list of places I want to visit, things I want to do and restaurants I want to try when we start getting back to normal – among other things. It’s nice to plan these things with your friends and family too so you can all look forward to them together. I’m treating it like a short-term bucket list and will tick it off once I can get out and start doing them.
I’d love to know how you are spending your time in isolation and how you’re finding it. Have you started a new hobby? Are you watching anything you’d highly recommend to others? Or maybe you’re going to start making plans with your time too? Let me know!
